Abacare staff win awards

Two members of staff at a leading care provider operating throughout Montgomeryshire are celebrating after winning silver accolades at the Wales Care Awards.

Carys Pritchard received the silver award in Leading Practice in Learning Disability Services Award and Sam Evans received a silver accolade for Excellence in Leadership and Management at the ceremony at Cardiff’s City Hall.

Carys said: “I am so pleased and honoured to have won this award. It’s overwhelming to be recognised for our hard work and dedication in the care sector.”

Carys has worked in the field of learning and physical disabilities for 25 years and joined Abacare in February 2015 as an Operations Executive specialising in Learning Disability Services.

She joined Abacare for a new challenge and to drive the learning disability section of the company and is championing the Learning Disability Services provided by Abacare by supporting the Abacare team in actively challenging practices, policies and attitudes that restrict the rights of individuals on the basis of their disability.

She is leading the company’s campaign to promote opportunities for everyone who uses its services and to help them to acquire and develop new skills to enhance their life and feeling of self-worth.

Meanwhile, Sam joined Abacare in 2014 and has used his extensive skills in adult services and challenging behaviours to assist the care agency in handling the largest transition of adult services in the county’s history when it took on the contract for Powys Council. 

He said: “To have scooped the silver award for Excellence in Leadership and Management is absolutely fantastic. It is great to be recognised for the hard work myself and all of the team have put in.”

The Wales Care Awards are an annual event run by Care Forum Wales to showcase best practice across the care sector.
