Apply for broadband support

Businesses in Newtown are being urged to take advantage of a high speed broadband scheme that can provide a grant of £3,000.

The Broadband Connection Voucher Scheme is available for businesses who want to upgrade above even the standard high speed fibre broadband provision.

Over 50 businesses from across Powys have already attended events to find out more about the Broadband Connection Voucher Scheme.

One event in Welshpool, organised by Powys County Council’s Regeneration Service, was well attended, according to the council.

The event also provided an opportunity for those who attended to meet with potential suppliers, network with other businesses and find out more about the benefits of a broadband connection.

The Broadband Connection Voucher Scheme is open to all Powys businesses, including home-based businesses, sole traders, registered charities and social enterprises.

Up to £3,000 is available to cover the installation costs of upgrading to a faster and more reliable connection. Monthly service charges and VAT are excluded from the scheme.

Cllr Avril York, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “I would like to thank all the businesses who attended these events and hope that they found them useful and informative.

“High-speed, high-quality broadband will ensure that businesses increase efficiency and enhance revenues which will help them maintain a competitive edge in their market. Broadband is increasingly vital for business development and growth but installations can be costly.

“I would urge those businesses and third sector organisations who are based in one of the qualifying towns to apply for the Broadband Connection Voucher Scheme.”
