Demand for homes in Newtown and Llanidloes is outstripping supply for certain types of properties, according to one of the region’s property estate agents.
The news comes after Llanidloes was named as one of the top 50 rural places to live in the UK in a Sunday Times list, placing the Powys town at 26th.
Andrew Turner, a partner at property surveyors and estate agents Morris, Marshall and Poole, said demand for starter homes through to executive properties had rocketed in the towns, creating hotspots not seen for some time.
“Demand for homes in Newtown, Machynlleth and Llanidloes has just gone through the roof quite literally over the past month or so,” he said.
“While we’re seeing a similar rise in other parts of Mid Wales and Shropshire, it’s these three market towns that seem to be in the homebuyers radar at the moment.
“We currently have 20 properties under offer in Llanidloes alone, which when you consider the size of the town is quite remarkable,” he commented.
Mr Turner said there is a demand for starter-homes in Newtown, as well as mid-sized properties, while in Llanidloes, first time, investment and executive homes are being sought by buyers.
The news comes after The Times national newspaper published a lost of the top places to live in the UK, placing Llanidloes 26th.
Last year the town appeared in The Guardian newspaper as a key location for home buyers.
“There has always been keen interest in both towns, but a combination of the low interest rates, people keen to get on to the property ladder and those looking to upsize is creating a hotspot in the towns,” added Mr Turner.
“Anyone considering selling their starter home or even looking to downsize from a family or executive home will see keen interest in their property if they put it on to the market.”
