Jobs boost for Newtown

06/01/2011 @ 01:11

Dozens of jobs could be heading Newtown’s way, with 11 initial telesales vacancies advertised by a company expanding into the town.
School Supplies Service has confirmed that it will be moving into the Vastre Estate and has chosen Newtown ahead of other potential locations due to the availability of ready-trained telesales professionals made redundant by the closure of Shop Direct.
“It is very difficult to get good telesales people so that is why we have chosen Newtown because it is a readymade workforce for us there,” said Managing Director Steve Meredith. “We are investing a lot of money in the expansion and look forward to opening our Newtown operation. We are recruiting a supervisor next week and this will be followed by 10 telesales executives. We hope this figure will double or even treble.”
The news is a boost to Newtown which suffered a gloomy 2010 with several big employers closing or relocating. Leaders have welcomed the jobs with open arms.
“I have spoken to the company to express my delight that they are coming to Newtown,” said Mayor Cllr Joy Jones. “After so much disappointing jobs news this really is wonderful for the town and hopefully the start of something big. I wish them well.”

The company is looking for applicants with a solid track record within outbound business to business telesales or experience in a call centre environment.
