Llanidloes businesses are planning an appeal for financial help after seeing their trade plummet due to major utility works in the town centre.
Traders are hoping to win support from a fund designed to compensate businesses for a loss in trade due to roadworks, after replacement work on the town’s water and gas mains led to a massive drop in the number of shoppers in the town. Shops in Longbridge Street have been particularly badly hit.
Keith Foster, of Llani Leisure, which only recently moved to Longbridge Street, said while traders appreciated that the work needed to be done they had seen a substantial drop in business. He said: “The works are going well and the workers are helpful. The work has to be done and it is being done most efficiently with as little disruption as possible.
