Students from Newtown High School have been busy over the summer period taking part in a "genius hour" project.

The students have been researching subjects before coming up with a presentation they had to provide remotely.

Hilltop Honey worked with the school on the project which involved students in years 7 and 8.

"As part of this project, students from both the Newtown and John Beddoes campuses worked during the summer term to research a topic completely of their own choosing. ," said Bethan Jones, Assistant Headteacher.

"They then created a presentation about it which was delivered via remote learning.  In total 20 students took part in the project, and the final presentations covered a wide and varied range of topics.

Scott Davies, Managing Director of Hilltop Honey and a former student of Newtown High School, judged the entries.

Founded in 2011, from a passion of beekeeping, young beekeeper Scott Davies created the buzz of Hilltop Honey.

The company donated small prizes for all those who submitted a presentation, as well as six major prizes for the three entries from each campus that Scott judged to be the best.

The standard of entries was very high. Scott said: “I was impressed by both the standard of work and presentation skills of the students. The attention to detail was outstanding and their passion on their chosen topic really shone through in their ability to research a topic.”

The overall winning presentations were:

Newtown Campus
Dreams
Psychology
My Backyard Build

John Beddoes Campus
Hamsters
18th Century Fashion
Nottingham Forest Football Club
