Newtown firm wins important contract

23/05/2011 @ 10:19

A Newtown company has clinched a vital contract which helps secure the future of business and jobs.

Celtic Developments, who are based on the Mochdre Enterprise Park, has landed a four-year Planned and Reactive framework agreement with Undod – a consortium of five housing associations who offer affordable housing throughout Wales and their principal local member the Mid Wales Housing Association.

The company provides a range of property maintenance services to the Welsh Assembly Government, local authorities, housing associations and private and commercial clients and while the company is reluctant to put a value, the Undod contract is seen as a valuable contract securing jobs for the next four years.

Celtic will be responsible for the care of Undod properties in North and Mid Wales which will augment an existing framework agreement with Powys County Council. The company said winning the contract had been helped by the Welsh Assembly Government's Supplier Development Service.

The company’s contracts manager Brian Dowling confirmed that this new contract will increase staffing levels from 15 to 20 plus over a period of time.
Brian said:” The Supplier Development Team was invaluable in developing what proved to be a highly complex and competitive tender process against both local and national competitors.  Particular thanks go to Stephen Mansfield, the development team’s on site representative whose assistance and experience were of great help to Celtic Developments during the tender.”

The Supplier Development Services’ next event is a free marketing seminar on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells from 5.00 pmto 7.00 pm. Its aim is to help local businesses secure work with the lucrative public sector – big spenders like the local government, NHS and the Welsh Assembly Government.

Supplier Development Champion Guto Carrod, who heads up the service in Mid-Wales said:” Doing business with the public sector presents a golden opportunity for local companies. Organisations in Wales spend £5billion a year on a vast range of products and services and nearly half this spend is won by Welsh companies.” Other potential public sector customers include the police, Ministry of Defence, Fire Service, DVLA and the prison service and the aim of the supplier development scheme is to support and guide companies seeking to do business with the public sector."

The June 1 event will start with presentation from Jonnie Galvin Wright, CEO of Newtown-based The Ontrac Agency, who will offer a private sector perspective on marketing your business, followed by a presentation by Helen Rees, Mid & West Wales Fire Service who will explain what the public sector wants from suppliers.

There will also be a question and answer session with the panel and an opportunity to meet advisors from support organisations such as Finance Wales. Ending the evening is a buffet and networking session, giving businesses the chance to meet prospective new suppliers and customers
