Welshpool Livestock Sales report on its sale at Buttington Cross on Monday.

OTMS (40)

An entry of 40 OTMS this week saw a top of £1086.06 (138ppkg) for a Charolais x OTM weighing in at 787kg from G A Thomas, Penllain, G P Vaughan & Son, Dolcorsllwyn also had top price with 160ppkg for a 590kg Limousin x OTM making £944. Younger cows (48-72months) topped at £994.16(136ppkg) for a Charolais x weighing 731kg from E G & S A Watkin, Pantyfalog. D P Evans, Moel Y Garth Farm also had a top price of 138ppkg for a 702kg Limousin x making £968.76 Heifers under 48 months topped at £1432.50 (191ppkg) for a 750kg Limousin from P Jones & Son, Dolgwenith.

Averages of the day were as follows:

OTM Cows (20)  123.31ppkg / £797.07.

Cows 48-72 months (9) 120.49ppkg / £745.58.

Heifers Under 48 months (10) 158.20ppkg / £1023.56.

Overall Average 131.79ppkg.

PRIME LAMBS (2543)

An entry of 2543 spring lambs sold to an overall average of 181.21ppkg.

Lights (695) to 204ppkg from H G Ellis & Co, Tynywern. Others to  196ppkg from T & M E Jones & Son, Tymawr. Average of 181.61ppkg.

Standards (1674) to 202ppkg  from Red House Farms, Aberhafesp. Others to 200ppkg from C J Davies & Son, Waengwyn.  Average of 181.37ppkg.

Mediums (489) to 200ppkg also from Red House Farm, Aberhafesp. Others to 195ppkg from C W Eynon, Blaen Dyffryn. Average of 176.23ppkg.

Heavies (75) to 171ppkg from G P Pugh & Son, The Garth. Others to 167ppkg from D S W Jones & Co, Llwynderw. Average of 166.69ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (2850)

An entry of 2813 cull ewes were present today, archieving an average of £44.51 This was down £3.44 on the week, but yet again a large entry of smaller ewes were present. Ewes peaked at £105 presented by Red House Farms, Aberhafesp, closely follwed C W Eynon, Blaen Dyffryn that sold two lots of ewes at £101. M M & R Morris, Maestanyglwyden also sold ewes at £100.

an entry of 18 cull rams averaged £59.69 today and topped at £135 from E L Evans, Derlwyn.
