Tuffins hand out £37,000 windfall

19/02/2011 @ 08:34
Local organisations are set for a £37,000 windfall thanks to Tuffins Supermarkets.

It’s that time again when representatives from across a broad spectrum of local community organisations will gather at Tuffins supermarkets in Churchstoke, Ludlow, Knighton, Craven Arms and Cleobury Mortimer, to receive donations from the £37K raised at the 2010 Tuffins Charity Funday.

Over 130 local community groups,  will receive monies at local Tuffins Stores throughout the first week in March. Hope House, Childrens hospices in Oswestry and Ty Gobaith,Conwy, will be presented with £4000 over 10% of the fund.

Richard Whittall, Operations Director of Harry Tuffins said “As an independent retailer we are always working hard to make a valuable contribution to our communities. Annually our charity Fun Day raises thousands of pounds for local community groups and charities.

"In 2010 we raised the stakes again and saw the best ever attendance with a staggering £37K raised as a final total. The money raised would not be possible without the generosity of our customers, suppliers, visitors and exhibitors”

Store managers along with Ruby and Roy Delves, Daughter and son in law of Harry Tuffin, will be presenting the cheques.

Ruby, joint chairperson for Tuffins said, “It is a privilege to be able to continue to support our local communities in this way. I’m very proud that the business that my dad founded is able to provide our local communities with assistance for much needed funding; there are so many volunteers who work tirelessly to keep some of these groups running. We hope to be able to raise as much if not more monies at funday 2011 with the continued support from our staff, our customers and our suppliers”

Preparations for the 2011 funday, the 17th consecutive year, are in full swing with the charity event being held on Sunday August 7th at the site of Harry Tuffins country park, Churchstoke.

Any organisation/local charity in the communities surrounding the stores can apply for a grant from the Making Difference Locally fund and the forthcoming 2011 Charity Funday.
