We’re still open! says cafe boss

The owner of a cafe which has seen a down turn in business since ShopDirect closed last month has announced to the town: ‘We’re still open!”

 

Nearly 200 jobs were lost when ShopDirect closed, dealing a severe economic blow to the town. And it was made worse for the award winning ‘Snack Bar’ which shares the same premises when mixed reports said the whole building had closed.

 

But its owner has sent out a clear message to the town that it is business as usual for the rest of the building’s tenants.

 

“The last two weeks have been very poor for business,” said Lisa Armes. “On Monday we only had four customers in all day!

 

“Word has reached us that people in the town believe the whole building has closed, but it has not. Only ShopDirect went which of course was a huge shame. There are other businesses in the building too still open, not just us, so the word needs to spread quickly. The scaffolding up does not help but the building is having a refurbishment done.”

 

Lisa took over the family run business seven years ago when her mother, Jan Jones, retired.
