Care agency pledges to become dignity champs

02/03/2016 @ 05:25

Ensuring the dignity of people receiving care has been prioritised by a Newtown care agency which has pledged to become Dignity Champions.

CEO of Abacare, Peter Angelides and Commercial Director, Caroline Jones signed up to the campaign, which is led by Dignity in Care and the National Dignity Council.

Peter said: “At Abacare we are absolutely passionate about delivering dignified care to our service users so when we heard about Dignity in Care’s Dignity Champion network, we just had to sign up and show our support.

“Dignity Champions help to ensure people have a good experience of care when they need it and as champions of this we will be helping to spread the word, not only within our team, who already practise dignity when caring for service users, but also across Wales in any way we can.

“We will also be encouraging our staff to sign up to the network and help spread the awareness.”

The Dignity in Care campaign was launched in November 2006, and aims to put dignity and respect at the heart of UK care services.

The campaign has more than 60,000 registered Dignity Champions. They are part of a nationwide movement, working individually and collectively, to ensure people have a good experience of care when they need it. They include councillors, staff at all levels in NHS and social care, volunteers, service users, their carers and members of the public.

The Dignity in Care campaign is led by the National Dignity Council, who work together to raise the profile of the network and to place greater emphasis on promoting the work the Dignity Champions do to improve standards of care for people who use services.
